Privacy policy
What we collect, why, who we share it with and how long we keep it - across the website, the shop, the app and the hardware in your van. Written to be read rather than waded through.
Covering our website, our online shop, the SavvyVan app and SavvyVan hardware. Effective 27 August 2026.
SavvyVan LTD (“SavvyVan”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is the data controller for the personal data described here.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and to being straightforward about what we do with your information. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it and what rights you have. It is written to comply with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. What this policy covers
| Where | What it is |
|---|---|
| www.savvyvan.com | Our main website. |
| shop.savvyvan.com | Our online shop, hosted on Shopify. |
| The SavvyVan app | Our mobile app, on Android and iOS. |
| SavvyVan hardware | The SavvyVan3 control panel and related modules, and the relay service that connects them to the app. |
| Contact with us | Email, phone, social media messages, support and warranty enquiries. |
If you bought from our shop, the shop policy published by Shopify at
shop.savvyvan.com/policies/privacy-policy also describes that transaction.
Where the two differ, this policy is the one that governs.
2. The short version
- The app does not require an account. You do not give us your name, email address or password to use it.
- We never see your card details. All payments go through Apple, Google, Shopify or PayPal.
- We do not store your van’s data. Readings from your panel pass through our relay server to your phone and are not retained by us.
- There is no analytics, tracking or advertising software in the app. No advertising IDs, no cross-app tracking, no profiling.
- We never sell your personal data, and we never share it for anyone else’s marketing.
Sections 3 to 7 set out the detail.
3. Using the SavvyVan app
3.1 No account, no sign-up
The app does not ask you to register, create an account, or give us your name or email address. It pairs with your hardware and works. Your pairing details and app settings are stored on your own device, not by us.
3.2 Purchases and subscriptions
If you buy SavvyVan Pro, the purchase is made through Apple or Google, not through us.
- We never receive your card, bank or payment details. Apple and Google handle payment and hold that information under their own privacy policies.
- To check whether you are entitled to Pro features, we use RevenueCat, a subscription management service.
Through RevenueCat we process:
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| A randomly generated app user ID | To recognise your entitlement without knowing who you are |
| Your subscription or purchase status, and the store transaction identifiers | To unlock Pro, restore purchases on a new device, and handle refunds and support |
| Device type, operating system version and app version | To deliver the right build and diagnose purchase problems |
| Country, derived from your IP address at the time of purchase | For pricing, tax and fraud prevention |
Legal basis: performance of a contract (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)) - we cannot give you what you have paid for without it.
The app user ID is pseudonymous: on its own it does not identify you. It can be linked to your Apple or Google account by Apple or Google, but not by us.
3.3 What is not in the app
The app contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising SDK and no push-notification service. We do not collect your location, your contacts, your photos, your advertising identifier, or any record of how you use the app. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we have no data to sell.
4. Your hardware and the relay service
Your SavvyVan3 panel connects over 2.4 GHz WiFi. When you view or control your van from the app, that traffic travels through a relay server we operate.
4.1 Data that passes through, and is not kept
The relay is a pass-through. Readings from your panel - battery voltage and charge state, water and waste tank levels, temperatures, heating and appliance states, and the commands you send back - are passed between your panel and your phone and are not stored by us. We do not build a history of your van, and we cannot look up what your battery was doing last Tuesday.
Legal basis: performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)).
4.2 Data the relay necessarily handles
To route a connection at all, the relay necessarily handles:
- the IP addresses of your panel and your phone; and
- a pairing or device identifier for your hardware.
These are processed only while the connection is open, and are not written to a log or otherwise retained. We keep no record of when you connected, from where, or for how long. An IP address gives an approximate area rather than a precise location, and we do not collect GPS or precise location data from your panel or your phone.
If that ever changes - if we need short-lived logs to investigate a fault or abuse, for instance - we will say so here, with the retention period, before it takes effect.
Legal basis: our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) in operating a working, secure service and preventing misuse.
4.3 What this means in practice
Because there is no account and no stored history, we usually cannot connect a panel to a named person from the app or the relay alone. If you have bought from our shop or contacted support, we hold your details there - see sections 5 and 6.
5. Buying from our shop
Our shop at shop.savvyvan.com runs on Shopify. When you order, we
collect:
- your name, delivery and billing address, email address and telephone number;
- your order details - what you bought, when, the price, and delivery and returns information;
- payment confirmation - the method used, and the last four digits and card type where the processor gives us that. We never receive your full card number, CVV or bank credentials; and
- technical and usage data - IP address, device and browser type, and pages viewed, collected by Shopify’s cookies and similar technologies.
Payments are processed by Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay and Google Pay, depending on what you choose. Each is a separate controller for the payment itself and handles your financial details under its own privacy policy.
Legal bases: performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) for taking and fulfilling your order; legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) for tax and accounting records; and our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) in preventing fraud and keeping the shop secure.
6. Contacting us, support and warranty
When you email us, message us on social media, or contact us about a fault, a warranty claim or an installation, we process your name, contact details, the content of your message, and any details of your vehicle, hardware, installation or purchase that you give us.
If you send us photographs or video of an installation, we process those too.
Legal bases: performance of a contract, or steps taken before entering into one (Article 6(1)(b)); legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) where a product safety or recall duty applies; and our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) in answering enquiries and improving our products.
We may keep an anonymised record of a fault to help us improve the product. That record does not identify you.
7. Our website and marketing emails
7.1 www.savvyvan.com
Our website is built as static pages and served by Cloudflare, which acts as our hosting provider and processes your IP address and request information in order to deliver the site and to protect it from attack and abuse.
We measure the site with three tools, and they do not all behave the same way:
| Tool | Cookies | When it loads |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare Web Analytics | None | For everyone. It counts page views and page-speed measurements without cookies and without identifying you |
| Google Analytics 4 | Yes | Only after you agree |
| Meta (Facebook) Pixel | Yes | Only after you agree. It lets us see whether our advertising works, and lets Meta show our ads to people who have visited the site |
If you decline, neither Google Analytics nor the Meta Pixel is loaded at all - the scripts are never requested, so nothing is sent to Google or Meta. The site works exactly the same either way.
See Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy and Meta’s at
www.facebook.com/privacy/policy.
7.2 shop.savvyvan.com
Shopify sets cookies necessary to run the shop, remember your basket and keep it secure, and - with your agreement through the shop’s cookie banner - for analytics and marketing. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the shop footer.
7.3 Cookies and your choice
Strictly necessary cookies are used without consent because the site cannot work without them. Analytics and marketing cookies are only used with your consent, which you can give, refuse or withdraw at any time.
On this website, the Cookies link in the footer reopens the banner so you can change your mind. Your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie, which means it stays on your device and is one fewer cookie to set. Clearing your browser data resets it and you will be asked again.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, though parts of the shop may then not work.
Legal basis: consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for non-essential cookies, as required by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003; legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for strictly necessary cookies.
7.4 Mailing list
If you join our mailing list, we use your email address, and any name you give us, to send you news, product updates and offers.
Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), or our legitimate interests where you are an existing customer and we are telling you about similar products, as permitted by the soft opt-in rule in PECR.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by emailing info@savvyvan.com. We act on unsubscribes promptly and keep a suppression record so we do not email you again by mistake.
8. Who we share your information with
We share personal data only with organisations that help us run the business, and only as much as they need. Each is bound by a contract requiring them to protect it and to use it only on our instructions.
| Who | What for |
|---|---|
| Apple and Google | App distribution and payment processing. They are separate controllers for your store account. |
| RevenueCat | Subscription entitlement management (section 3.2). |
| Shopify | Running our online shop, processing orders and payments. |
| Payment providers - Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay, Google Pay | Taking payment. Separate controllers for the payment itself. |
| Cloudflare | Hosting and delivering our website, protecting it from attack, and cookieless traffic measurement. |
| Anthropic | Answering questions you ask the assistant on our website. We send your question as you typed it, together with extracts from our own support guides. We do not attach your name, email address, account or order details - but anything you choose to put in the question itself is sent with it. |
| Website analytics, where you have agreed to it. | |
| Meta Platforms | Advertising measurement and audiences, where you have agreed to it. Meta is a separate controller for what it does with that data. |
| Delivery and courier companies | Getting your order to you. |
| Our hosting and IT providers | Running the relay service and our systems. |
| Our accountants and professional advisers | Tax, accounting and legal advice. |
| Installers, converters and dealers | Only where you ask us to deal with them about your installation or warranty. |
We may also disclose personal data where the law requires it, to a regulator or in response to a valid legal request, to establish or defend legal claims, or in connection with the sale or reorganisation of our business - in which case the buyer would be bound by this policy.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
9. Sending data outside the UK
Some of our providers are based outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States and Canada. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we make sure it is protected by one of the safeguards UK law allows:
- transfer to a country with UK adequacy regulations (this covers the EEA and, for certified US organisations, the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework); or
- the International Data Transfer Agreement, or the ICO’s UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, together with a transfer risk assessment.
You can ask us for details of the safeguard used for a particular provider by emailing info@savvyvan.com.
10. How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Van telemetry passing through the relay | Not stored - passed through only |
| Relay connection data (IP, device identifier) | Not logged - handled only for the life of the connection |
| App entitlement records at RevenueCat | For as long as your entitlement lasts, then as needed for refunds, disputes and tax records |
| Shop orders and invoices | 6 years after the end of the accounting period, as HMRC requires |
| Support, warranty and fault correspondence | 3 years from the last contact, or longer where a claim, warranty or product safety issue is live |
| Mailing list | Until you unsubscribe; a minimal suppression record is kept indefinitely so we do not contact you again |
| Website and shop analytics | As set by Google, Meta and Shopify, typically no more than 14 months |
| Questions asked through the website assistant | 12 months, so we can see which guides need writing or improving. We store the question and the answer, and the earlier turns of the same conversation, so that a follow-up still makes sense when we read it back. Each conversation is given a random reference so we can see it as a conversation - it is not linked to you, your account or your device, it is not a cookie, and a new one begins each time you open the chat. We do not store your IP address. If you put personal details in a question they are kept with it - so please do not type anything you would not want kept |
When a retention period ends we delete the data or anonymise it so it can no longer identify you.
11. Keeping it safe
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encryption of data in transit, access controls so staff see only what they need, and reputable providers who maintain recognised security standards. Our relay is designed so that there is very little to lose: your van’s readings are not stored on it.
No system is completely secure. If a personal data breach happens that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will report it to the ICO within 72 hours, and tell you directly where the risk is high.
12. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- be informed about how we use your data - that is what this policy is for;
- access a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased, in certain circumstances;
- restrict how we use it, in certain circumstances;
- data portability - receive data you gave us in a machine-readable format, or have it sent to another provider;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to object to direct marketing at any time, which we will always honour; and
- withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it, without affecting anything done beforehand.
How to exercise them: email info@savvyvan.com, or write to us at the address at the top of this policy. We will respond within one month. This is free, unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive. We may need to verify your identity first.
A note on app data: because the app has no account, we usually hold nothing that identifies you as an app user. If you ask us to delete “your app data”, there is normally nothing for us to find. Tell us your order number or the email address you used, and we can look for anything held in our shop or support records instead.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first at info@savvyvan.com so we can put it right. Our complaints policy sets out how we handle it.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK’s data protection regulator:
Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow,
Cheshire, SK9 5AF. Helpline 0303 123 1113 ·
ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint
If you are in the EEA, you may instead complain to your local supervisory authority.
13. Children
Our products, website, shop and app are intended for adults. They are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact info@savvyvan.com and we will delete it.
14. Automated decision-making
We do not carry out automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not profile you. Our fraud-prevention providers may apply automated checks to a payment; those are operated by the payment providers under their own policies, and you can ask them to review a decision.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy - for example if we add a feature that processes data differently, or if the law changes. The current version is always at www.savvyvan.com/privacy, and the date at the foot of this page shows when it last changed.
If a change materially affects you, we will tell you through the app, by email, or with a notice on our website before it takes effect. If a change requires your consent, we will ask for it.
