An awning, a step or a bed, from the screen

The Motor Driver lets a SavvyVan3 open and close one motorised mechanism - an awning, a step, a drop-down bed, a pop-top or a side pod - with a tap. It learns how far the mechanism travels by calibrating itself, stops early if something is in the way, and can be locked out by a sensor.

It drives one 12V DC motor of up to 5A, which must reverse with its polarity and have its own limit switches to stop it at each end. Three-wire motors are not supported yet. It is driven from the panel's screen only - not the phone app, a SavvyDot or a logic rule - and it needs panel software 2.5.1 or later.

The Motor Driver is sold to trade only - converters, dealers and installers with a SavvyVan trade account.

What it does

A small board between the van's 12V and one motor, set up and driven from the same screen as everything else.

  • One tap, all the way

Open or Close runs the mechanism to the end and stops. A red Stop, never greyed out, stops it at any point, and the screen says where it is.

  • It measures itself

Auto-Calibrate runs the mechanism out and back once, and the Motor Driver learns how long it takes and how much current it normally draws.

  • Stops on an obstruction

It watches the motor's current the whole way and stops early if it rises past the limit, which is what something in the way looks like.

  • A lockout input

A sensor can stop it and refuse to move it - an awning's travel cage in place, or the bedroom door open on a drop-down bed. Not needed? Link it out.

  • Named for what it drives

Awning, Bed, Pop-Top, Side Pod, Step, or your own name. The owner sees it on their page, and opens it from the side menu.

What's new

Panels update themselves over WiFi, so one fitted two years ago does all of this too.
